The Daddy Hospital Bag

I was talking to a new mommy yesterday and she mentioned that her husband had to frantically pack his own clothes in a bag when she went into labor.

"Hm," I said. "The baby books and Web sites don't give you tips about what to pack for him. It is all about what to pack for us and the baby."

"Yeah, who cares about him?" she joked.

We both laughed but it did make me think. Why don't the what-to-pack articles give you tips about what Daddy will need? Don't they need socks and underpants and snacks too? Is this just the beginning of ignoring him like they say you will inevitably start to do?

Well I don't want to do that. I do love this person that I have procreated with. I'm going to be proactive and go home and put some things for him in my hospital bag. I'll include a spare T-shirt, socks, his favorite energy bars, and some toiletries. I've got him covered on the gadget front so he most certainly shouldn't be bored. Am I missing anything?

I think the list we used had stuff for daddy on it. Don't forget to pack some underthings for Clayton! :) You'll probably want some jammy pants too.

If you've got room for it, a pillow from home is a good idea -- my wife and I both brought one the second time around. The daddy sleeping conditions aren't the best....and it's amazing what one comfy familiar pillow can do to help get a few hours of shut eye when the time is right.

A pad of paper and pen. Trust me, you will forget so much so quickly, and years later you will scratch your head and wonder about things.

I agree with the pillow for sure, and it's good that you pack snacks. I also think a towel, they don't have a lot of towels for the shower, or at least not at my hospitals...

I don't speak from personal exp, but I know it can be helpful to have a list of ppl and phone numbers in order of who he is supposed to contact with info.

I've known people who have freaked out cuz there significant others caledl the wrong people first to give updates.

guys dont think about his kind of thing, so we tend to always get it wrong! lol
