Running Board: Double Stroller Alternative?

Ever since I saw Jennifer’s City Select stroller that converts to a double, I’ve had stroller envy. And buyer’s remorse. It’s not that I don’t love my Bumbleride Indie (I totally do!), it’s that it’s a single stroller, and that’s all it ever will be.Nic thoroughly enjoying his BumbleRide Indie.

Or at least, that’s what I thought. I heard about stroller running boards when I was shopping for my original stroller and was always bummed that BumbleRide didn’t make one as an option for the Indie. Basically, a running board is just a little step with wheels that you attach to the back of your stroller, and your toddler can stand there to ride. Then just yesterday (about two years later!), I had a thought: What if someone else makes one that is compatible with my stroller? A bit of Googling and a confirmation from BumbleRide’s Facebook page led me to this little wonder: The Lascal BuggyBoard Maxi.

Could this solve all of my double stroller woes? Maybe. Who knows if Nic will actually enjoy riding on this thing, but here’s how I envision it: When I want to stroll the baby, Nic can jump on the running board and we can scoot off to the park. When I want to wear the baby, Nic can resume his regular seat in the stroller.

If this works, it will save the several hundred dollars I would Could this gadget save me from my double stroller dilemma?have plunked down for a double. Plus, I won’t have to get used to a new stroller or learn how to negotiate bigger wheels.  But who knows? Nic may hate the idea of riding on the BuggyBoard, so I’m not going to count on it working. I think I’ll order it right before the baby comes and have my dad install it when I’m at the hospital. Then we can take it for a few spins, and if it doesn’t work as expected, we’ll still be within the return window. And then I can start shopping for doubles.

Do any of you have experience with running boards? Love ‘em? Hate ‘em? How old were your kids when you used them?

Nathalee, I think you have a great plan here!! The stroller board looks really cool. If I were Nic, I'd for sure want to ride on one :) Better than a scooter. Leave it to you to come up with a solution! Good luck.

How about trying it out before the new baby gets here? Then he won't feel displaced by the baby being in his seat if he's used to the new perch already.

Ahhh...excellent point Elsa! I hadn't even thought of that, and it's definitely a better way to go. Thank you for suggesting it!

Whenever we get around to #2 - if our first is still stroller age, I plan to just wear #2 and continue use the stroller for the older one. We'll get a double jogger - probably a Bob Revolution that can double as a regular stroller if absolutely necessary.
