We discuss a recent study our latest podcast which found that taking parenting too seriously can be bad for a mother’s health. I believe it - but not so much for the reasons they discuss in the study. For example, I don’t feel like a bad mother if I’m not entertaining my tot every second or if sometimes my needs come first.
Personally I stress over the amount of information I digest daily. Unless you’ve shut yourself off from the outside world you’ve heard the danger warnings over using plastic but it doesn’t stop there. We moms have to read studies showcasing the amount of toxins our tots are consuming not to mention ourselves on a daily basis through flame retardants in couch cushions and car seats, chemicals in rugs, carcinogens in household cleaners, poisons on our fruits and vegetables and the list goes on. No longer can we rely on companies to be straight with us. We are forced to review products on sites like the Good Guide and EWG before purchasing so can ensure they are in fact safe to use.
Side note: Did you know any company can put natural on a product whether it is or not? A completely unnatural product can put it on its package and no one can dispute it – at least according to this article which also says a product can put organic on its packaging even if it’s only 5 percent organic. Psssh!
Wouldn’t it be nice to watch TV on your couch or strap your little one in their car seat and not worry about what they or you were ingesting? I realize I’m probably the only weirdo that does this but sometimes ignorance is bliss, ya know? I am thankful we have the research to show that things need to change. I just wish companies had done it the right way the first time so there wouldn’t be a need for change, and that some companies weren’t “cutting corners” to increase margins/profits.
So yes I stress over raising my child and sometimes too much. I’m working on it but it’s just crazy how difficult it is to raise a child in a healthy environment in this day and age.
