It Goes By So Fast

Everyone always says to enjoy the time with your little one because time sure flies. Wow, it sure does. Reese turned two this week! I can't believe how much she's changed in the past year. She has so much personality and challenges me not only to be a better mom but also to be a better person every day.

Tea for TwoI often hear moms say that they miss the baby stage. Ha, not me! I really don't miss changing 8-10 diapers a day, I don't miss feeding every couple of hours, I don't miss being attached to a damn breast pump and I don't miss the lack of sleep or incessant crying. But of course I can’t wait to have another child!!

For me, toddlers are so much more fun! Maybe we just haven't hit the "terrible two" stage?" Sometimes I think that I have it easy because I had a nasty run-in with Post Partum Depression so anything after that is considered easy! Yesterday we had a little "Mommy and Me" tea party at home. It was really special.

All I know is that I am enjoying watching Reese grow into her own little person - super sassy already. She’s talking up a storm these days so just being able to communicate is a huge benefit. What’s most fascinating for me is to watch as she soaks up information and applies it to her world. And her ability to demonstrate compassion for other kids (aside from the pushing that is becoming less and less) melts my heart every time.

I am sure every stage is going to bring different challenges and some stages will be easier than others. One thing I know for sure is that I will not take for granted being able to see my baby sprout into this amazing little girl.

What has your favorite stage/age been so far and why?

I am just curious...when did you potty train and how??? My little one is coming up on 2 in October. She is super talkative and fun, way ahead of the curve on some things, but I have a strong sense that the potty is going to be a huge battle. She is so independent and often resists guidance or help of any kind. And helping her with the potty, her clothes, etc, is a LOT of helping that she will most likely resist!!! I would LOVE to be done with the diapers by two but am not sure how to get there.

Happy second birthday to Reesie and mommy! It does go by fast but you've done a great job of savoring every moment which you can tell by just being around Reese.

Oops - I forgot to actually respond to your post. I am so WITH you - I don't miss the baby year at all. I was incredibly anxious and depressed, and my little girl did NOT like anything about infancy! She is so happy now that she can walk and talk...and I am finally starting to feel less anxious. :) Life is good with a toddler! Mine has already started the "terribles," but it is not terrible at all compared to infancy. I would rather deal with her at THIS age for 20 straight years than go back and do infancy for even one year. NO thanks we're done! :)

Mary, I haven't started potty training yet. I've decided to wait until after our family trip to Hawaii this coming week. I didn't want to deal with accidents on the trip :) Both Nathalee and Natali have potty trained with huge success. Lucky for us they kept a diary of how they did it. You can do a a search for "Potty Training" in our search bar you'll find a ton. Here are a few links to get you started:

Good luck and please let us know how it goes!!

I'm lucky to have the best of both worlds right now. Coraline is 2 1/2 and Dacia i 4 months old. I too admit that infancy with my first was not fun. People would ask me if I was having fun and tell me to enjoy the newborn stage because it goes by so fast. I guess it really depends on the baby. Dacia is such a mellow, happy baby so I have really enjoyed the newborn/infant stage with her. Coraline is such a fun toddler. She amazes me everyday.
