Daddy's Little Girl

I’m with Reese most weekdays so it’s no surprise she is a Mommy’s Girl. My husband gets home just in time for dinner, bath and bedtime. And weekends it’s all about the family. But during our long vacation, they did a lot of daddy/daughter bonding and she’s definitely turning into Daddy’s Little Girl.
We were having brunch with friends who have a new baby girl. I held the baby for 10 min or so while Reese sat next to me without seeming to mind. Then Josh held the baby and he was able to get her to fall asleep in his arms. After a little while Reese stood next to him and sweetly exlaimed, “Reesey’s Daddy. Reesey’s Daddy.” Was this jealousy or a simple statement? She seemed a little concerned but was easily distracted. She tried one more time to get his attention by saying “Reesey’s Daddy hold you [me].” We explained that daddy was just holding the baby for a little bit and he was going to give her back to the baby’s mommy and daddy.
She’s never once showed any sign of jealousy for either one of us although from what I’ve heard and read it’s natural. It was really sweet to see her reaction. And I think it made my husband’s day. Ah, the little things in life…

From the books I've read, it is more common for toddlers to show jealousy over Daddies and Grandparents. Mommies they expect to be taking care of babies. It is what we do. But Daddies and Grandparents are all fun and games so when they show affection to another baby it is especially threatening. We saw that a lot when we first brought Ava home from the hospital. Miles was threatened by Grammy and Grandma a lot! He told them to put her down. It's a heartbreaking lesson to watch them learn!
