Me, Reese and Grandma at the Japanese Tea GardenNathalee’s post about the park within Golden Gate Park Children’s Playground (which I agree, is amazing!) in San Francisco reminded me that I wanted to share this list of fun things to do with kids in SF that I mentioned during our last podcast. A lot of things on the list are great for toddlers and above but I think it’s fun to take babies out too (more for mommy’s sake).
SF has so much to offer and so I’ve made a pact to try to do at least one new activity a week with Reese. I took Reese to visit the Japanese Tea Garden when she was about 7 months old and I’ve been taking her to the Academy of Sciences since she was 6 months old. At the Academy of Sciences I would lay a blanket on the floor near the floor-to-ceiling aquarium and Reese would watch the fish swim by. It was a nice break for mommy. Now she likes trying to plaster her face against the aquarium trying to get as close as she can to the fish.
Reese admiring the fish at the Academy of SciencesActivities can get expensive but many places like the Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Garden and San Francisco Zoo offer free days or times where residents can get in free. So a little research and planning ahead of time can save some money!
Where do you live and what’s your favorite activity to do with your child/ren? All of us Mommies could use some ideas!
I’m almost ashamed to admit this. Before today, I had never taken Dominic to the Golden Gate Park Children’s Playground. I know we don’t live in the City, but that's no excuse. This park is totally worth the drive and I wish we had been going there regularly for months.
First off, they have a carousel. I love it’s beauty, it’s obviously loving restoration and Nic loves all of the “amnininis” (animals—“ninini” is is suffix of choice). I took him on his first carousel ride, and as you can see below, he loved it.
Secondly, this playground is HUGE. Huge is almost an understatement. If Nic didn’t have to nap, we could have stayed there all day without being bored. It has so many different areas—there are bound to be several that appeal to any given child. We wandered from area to area and had a great time interacting with an array of interesting people, kids and dogs.
This video will give you an idea of how big it is, but it doesn’t even do it justice.
While there, I had a vision of a MommyBeta Reader picnic and playdate. It’s probably too late to get one on the calendar this fall, so l think we should do one this spring. What do you think? Would you and your babies come out to play with us?
